Bizhan Bassiri - Wake
27.01.2018 - 11.03.2018
Riso Museum, Palermo
in collaboration with Monacontemporary Fine Art, VOLUME! Foundation and Faiznia Family Foundation
According to the exhibition planning of the RISO Museum in Palermo, Bizhan Bassiri’s plastic works exhibitions Wake (2018) and Celestial Body (1993-2016) will start on Friday 26th January 2018 at 6 pm, both curated by Bruno Corà.
Bassiri - the Italian Persian artist who has represented Iran with a big plastic installation during the 57° International Biennial in Venice - thanks to this two different exhibitions arrives in the Sicilian main town at Palazzo Belmonte Riso and at Cappella dell’Incoronazione with two unprecedented visionary narrations.
With Wake (2018) Bassiri establishes at Riso’s first floor an epic dramaturgy, a solemn Sarcophagus, in front of a Battle (2014); with Celestial Body (1993-2016) he makes people ask an implicit question about where an elaborated surface made of papier-mâché and different techniques arrive from. Located in the room, this artwork is obscure and enigmatic and not even the steel Candle holders (1998) with their lights can reduce its disturbing presence.
The two eloquent “Parables” of this European and Italian’s character that belongs to 80s art generation, allow appreciating the plastic and poetic value of this exhibition.
The two exhibitions at Riso’s palaces in Palermo - in collaboration with VOLUME! Foundation, Faiznia Family Foundation and Monaconteporary Fine Art - will be followed by a publication which includes some artist’s theoretical and poetic texts and an essay written by Bruno Corà that, with a repertoire of images, carries on and deepens the hermeneutic studies around Bassiri’s work.
