Artist Bio

GIOVANNI ALBANESE

Italian, b. 1955, Bari, Italy

Artist and filmmaker was born in Bari in 1955, he lives and works in Rome, Italy. In the mid-nineties, he produced his first objects “flaming” made up of hundreds of flame bulbs that simulate the light of votive candles; by items of furniture (chairs, tables, stairs, etc.) until the evocative installation Symphony, a grand piano in front to which they stop red percent extinguishers “flaming”, organized on the occasion of his staff at the MACRO in Rome in 2001.

In 2002, he won the Prix Pino Pascali set up in 1969 and soon became a reference point for the Italian contemporary art in the field of cutting-edge research and experimentation of new languages.
With the enthusiasm and versatility that characterize, he realizes scenic installations for film, the theater and television. In 2001 he directed AAA Achille (awarded at the Giffoni Film Festival) and in 2006 for The White Night in Rome, he directed the multimedia show The Night of Dreams, made at the Palazzo Barberini. Last film is set in the world of Contemporary Art, titled Senza arte nè parte/Without art nor part.
His works are in numerous public and private collections.
